Low Volume Parts / Prototypes

For existing customers and in certain prospective customer situations, product development and launch may begin with a prototype model. Bahrs has draw extensive experience in prototype metal stamping to bring your ideas to life. Rapid metal prototyping process turns concepts into custom prototype parts. This allows your company to build on the success of the initial prototype models.

The stamped part prototype process is the construction of physical objects, using solid freeform fabrication.  This allows us to produce sheet metal prototype models and prototype parts.  We can then apply it even more broadly, to manufacture production-quality parts in smaller numbers. The stamped part prototype is based on a three-dimensional virtual drawing, as from a CAD file, to automate the fabrication of a sheet metal prototype model.  This stamped part prototype physical model can reveal more details about the performance of a product early in the development cycle.

Bahrs manufactures metal stampings and stamped prototype parts for a broad spectrum of applications. Our skilled staff and state-of-the-art CNC equipment enable us to create precision metal stampings projects from design to prototype to finished production.

Industry demands parts with tight tolerances and precision. No matter how complex the designs, Bahrs can produce custom stamped metal parts that meet or exceed the expectations of customers in any industry each and every time.

Bahrs can produce precision metal stampings and prototypes from a number of metals, alloys, and specialty materials, including aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and many others. We also offer a variety of secondary services to give additional value to our parts and components and to save you time and money in your production process.

Bahrs can handle both low run stamped parts and high volume metal die stamping output to meet the most demanding metal die stamping production schedules at the lowest cost.

When production needs are lower or multiple operations metal die stamping tooling is appropriate, that’s what we build. We are flexible in our metal die stamping approach.

Prototyping

Prototyping

Prototypes: “a first, typical or preliminary model of something, especially a machine, from which other forms are developed or copied”.

You have a design for a fine mechanical part but you’d like to know whether it would work in practice.

While not a primary service, the specialists at Bahrs are pleased to consider building a prototype for you. However, due to economic considerations, our prototyping is limited to those opportunities where we would be stamping the final parts in production quantities.

A standard part of the process of building a prototype is the joint investigation to discover whether the part can later be produced efficiently and effectively. It will also reveal whether the prototype will operate the way you visualized in practice. In short, building a prototype consists of more than just building a prototype.

Our talented and experienced engineers and designers can then ‘see’ the part and also ‘see’ how it should work, and most importantly, ‘see’ how to design it for manufacturability.

In doing this they go further than just building the prototype. They look beyond just the design and ‘see’ the part being manufactured and in end use so as to later build our own tooling in order to develop your design.

Precision is their passion.

That precision provides you with a vital advantage.

We invite you to experience for yourself what having Bahrs build a prototype can really mean for you.

Wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining)

  • For prototype pieces, production items, repair of damaged die sections, and inserting new features.
  • The VZ500L is a linear motor driven machine featuring a direct-drive, non-contact, vibration-free mechanism that offer unrivaled acceleration and positioning accuracy with no backlash, giving Bahrs Die & Stamping, the ability to wire edm with a sense of security knowing they will not lose any accuracy over the years. The positioning accuracy is monitored by glass scales, the most accurate form of position measurement available.

The VZ500L wire threader, Super Jet Annealing High Speed AWT, is very reliable. The annealing function heats, stretches to a pointed end and cuts the wire ensuring higher success rates threading wire through a hole on a submerged workpiece or a small diameter hole. This time-saving feature allows Bahrs to meet very aggressive deadlines.

Water Jet Machining

Water jet cutting allows the creation of prototype parts without the cost of tooling. This offers our customers:

  • Parts performance assessment
  • Flexibility of necessary changes before committing to hard tooling
  • Production items using almost any material imaginable
  • Prototypes (one piece to thousand of pieces)
  • Titanium, Superalloys, Carbon Fiber-Reinforced Plastics, Kevlar, Fiberglass, Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Hardened Tool Steel, Copper, Brass, Aluminum, Wood, Glass, Bullet resistant glass, Granite, Porcelain tile, Concrete, Ceramics, Plastic, and Foam rubber, Soft Rubber, Fiber-reinforced rubber and very hard rubber.

Whether you need a single, simple prototype part, a complete prototype model or tens of thousands of complex metal stampings, Bahrs is your number one source. Request a quote for the metal stampings or prototypes you need, or contact us for more information.
